Title: Love and Loss
Medium: Digital
As humans, we instinctively react to expressions on a deep, often unconscious level, though reactions can vary from person to person. For some, this heightened awareness can feel uncomfortable, creating a sense of vulnerability.
Through this art piece, I aim to reveal how humans are delicate under the impression of love and loss. After someone’s roots become acquainted with another, it’s difficult to pull out the bits and pieces left behind. The feeling of loss can be mutual, platonic, or romantic, but it depends on how we take this emotion and apply it to our actions. This piece depicts the feeling of loss after love. The color “red” is an extreme pop color in artistic media and it symbolizes the “abuser” in the love cycle: the bird, the fire, and the vine. The victim represents an island with open ribs to show vulnerability, and the fire indicates the abandonment of the “island.”
It’s difficult to see the people we love as perpetrators, and by the time we confront this, it’s often too late. However, while dependency can be limiting, growth and renewal are boundless.
