The Horace Greeley Quakers’ impressive season came to a close on Thursday, February 27th, as they fell just short in a hard-fought 64-61 battle against Yorktown in the Section 1 quarterfinals. While the season ended in heartbreak, it was undoubtedly one of the program’s most successful campaigns since 2020.
Greeley finished with an outstanding 16-6 record, securing a regular-season league championship along the way. Leading the charge was senior Zach Boyriven, who dominated on both ends of the floor. Averaging 20 points, six rebounds, and two steals per game, Boyriven’s stellar performance earned him All-Section honors and Co-League MVP recognition.
Jake Sheehy, Jordan Nadel, and Boyriven controlled the glass, each averaging over four rebounds per game. Sheehy, in particular, was a force inside, throwing down emphatic dunks and averaging 15.5 points per game on an incredible 63% shooting from the field—efficiency that landed him All-Conference honors.
From beyond the arc, the Quakers had a lethal trio in sophomore Levi Sack, Alex Horowitz, and Boyriven. Sack knocked down threes at a 36% clip, while Boyriven was lights out, hitting 43% from deep. Horowitz, returning strong after an injury sidelined him last year, averaged eight points, two assists, and two steals per game, earning All-League honors for his efforts.
The season featured several memorable moments, including a thrilling win over Fox Lane to clinch the regular-season league title and a dominant playoff-opening victory over Roosevelt. Though this season has come to an end, the future remains bright for the Quakers as they continue to build on their success.
