Pubstreet: More Like Grubstreet

Pleasantville is home to some of the best restaurants in the area—including Pubstreet. Located on Wheeler Ave, Pubstreet merges your classic American restaurant with a fresh seafood bar. This local bustling restaurant is the perfect spot for lunch and dinner for any day of the week.
We chose the shishito peppers as our starters, which were delicious, vibrant, and colorful. Doused in lemon juice and sprinkled with tomato salt, the shishito peppers were appealing as appetizers. The salt was a great touch, introducing a new and slightly exotic flavor to the dish. To our liking, the spiciness is kept to a minimum in this order. We definitely recommend this dish as an appetizer!

Another astounding starter was the baby arugula salad, dressed in a light and lemony vinaigrette with flakes of fresh parmesan on top. This refreshing and nutritious plate had the perfect amount of flavor, thanks to the citrusy lemon, the peppery arugula, and the soft and salty parm. Additionally, the arugula was crisp and tasted extremely fresh. Many people don’t like arugula because of its slightly bitter taste. However, the bitterness is compensated by the other ingredients in this dish. We highly recommend this as a light and refreshing starter.

Moving on to the main courses, for one of our entrees, we decided to order the Pubstreet rice bowl. The bowl consisted of crispy chicken, Japanese marinated pickles, sambal aioli, chili oil, and cilantro. Coming in an ideal portion, the dish was warm and comforting. The chicken was cooked perfectly and had a crispy fry on it. We enjoyed the addition of the pickles to the dish, which added crunch and tangy flavor. However, if you are someone who doesn’t like cilantro and chili oil, then the rice bowl isn’t for you. Additionally, this dish had a strong spicy kick! If you’re looking for an Asian-inspired entree that will not leave you hungry, we suggest you give this rice bowl a try!
We then had the burger with fries: a classic of any American restaurant. The surface of the bun was slightly charred, giving the burger a bit of a burnt taste that we definitely could have lived without. However, the meat was delicious and cooked to perfection. Even as takeout, it was still warm and flavorful. The onion and tomato were delicious, and the lettuce wasn’t soggy. With any good burger comes an equally delicious set of fries, but the fries in this meal were disappointedly soggy. Despite the ideal amount of salt and the perfect cut, we couldn’t get over the lack of crunch in our fries when digging in.

Our last dish was a kid’s order of chicken fingers and fries. The chicken pieces were perfectly crispy and had a great flavor—we finished them all! The french fries were identical to those we received in the burger order, and we believe—once again—that they should have been crispier. Nevertheless, it’s always important to remember that nobody is too old for the kid’s menu!
All in all, we had a good experience at Pubstreet in Pleasantville. However, we predict that the food would be better when eaten in the restaurant, so we will be giving that a try next time!
