Ms. Trickel is a new teacher re-joining the Horace Greeley community this year! She works in the Special Education Department, and is co-teaching Physics 9. Last year, she held a part-time position at Greeley and has worked at Briarcliff Manor High School. During her time at Greeley, she hopes to inspire her students and spread the message of lifelong learning.
Q: Why did you choose Chappaqua?
A: I chose Chappaqua because I was at Briarcliff Manor before. I came to Chappaqua last year for a part time position as I knew other teachers that worked here. Also, former colleagues had heard good things about Greeley’s campus in general. I was also looking for a bigger district because Briarcliff is very small.
Q: What are your passions, interests, and hobbies outside of teaching?
A: Human rights and animal rights. I have fostered dogs from a local shelter for 10 years, with 20 different dogs over time. It is very rewarding to see the dogs change with increased love and structure, and to watch them find their home and flourish. I also volunteer at food pantries. I love music and reading. My favorite book is My Friends by Fredrick Bachman.
Q: What is your favorite thing about teaching their subject area?
A: The variety, the problem solving, trying to help a student understand content, and helping them find their strengths. Also, students have so many wonderful things to offer but they just need to learn how to channel it into what their passions are.
Q: What did you enjoy about Greeley last year?
A: My favorite thing was the community. The teachers were so welcoming and collaborative. Also, the students made my job quite easy because of their eagerness to learn and listen.
Q: What inspired you to become a teacher?
A: Both my good teachers and my bad teachers inspired me to become a teacher. They allowed me to see how wonderful it is when you finally understand something. But, I also remember that feeling of what a bad teacher made me feel like. I don’t want other students to feel like that. Also, I have always loved working with kids. I have been babysitting and working in nurseries since I was 12.
Q: What do you hope students take away from your class?
A: Never give up. Try to find a way to figure it out. Also, you’re not in it alone, you can always reach out for help, if needed. Lifelong learning is a big thing, I hope they find something to encourage them to keep learning.
Q: What made you choose your subject area?
A: Helping kids be able to find a way for them to feel success is what drew me to Special Education. There are many learning strategies that can help them. If they find something that works for them, they will be able to grow as learners.. I also love solving puzzles. There is no better way to help than to get a student to find a lifelong goal and make a career out of that.
We are excited to welcome Ms.Trickel to the Greeley community!
