As we celebrate Teachers Appreciation Week, we should also recognize that May 10 is National School Nurses Day. In my exclusive interview with school Nurses Becky and Ellen, we got their take on how it is to be a nurse here at Greeley.
Here was my conversation between them.
Noah Edralin: So first of all can you give me background information on what a school nurse does?
Nurse Becky: So what a school nurse does is that we overall keep the students and the staff safe and able to stay at school if they have any type of injury or if they have illness. We work with the parents and the staff and the students in order for them to be successful and stay at school.
Nurse Ellen: We advocate for the students, help them feel comfortable, a safe place where they can come to. We do sports registration physicals.
Nurse Becky: Make sure that they get cleared, everything’s up to date, working papers.
Nurse Ellen: Speak with parents back and forth and just to keep everything together.
Noah Edralin: So what made you want to become a school nurse?
Nurse Ellen: I’ve done pediatrics for a while and I just like working with kids and high school is a really nice area to be in because you really relate to the students and speak to them
Nurse Becky: Absolutely and I’ve always wanted to do this as well and that this is a great opportunity to work with students and young adults. Like Ellen said, you can relate to them and just make a difference!
Noah Edralin: What’s the best part about being a nurse here at Greeley?
Nurse Ellen: The Greeley Students
Nurse Becky: Yeah there’s a lot!
Nurse Ellen: A lot of different personalities, a lot of really fun and very smart kids that really have a focus!
Nurse Becky: Yes, very charismatic. Again lots of different personalities come through here and it’s wonderful to work with everybody.
Through this, we see the dedication both Nurse Becky and Nurse Ellen give. We would like to thank them for their efforts and contributions to Greeley and our district!
