This year, lots of attention has been paid to Ariana Grande as she played Glinda in the hit movie Wicked, the cinematic recreation of the famous Broadway musical. She received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in the film. Despite not winning the Oscar, this role still earned her recognition in the film industry as she proved theatrical talent aside from her singing career. At the Oscars ceremony, Ariana Grande and her co-star Cyntha Erivo delivered an opening performance, singing songs from Wicked, and other musicals like The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz.

At the 2025 Academy Awards, Timothée Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor for his leading role in A Complete Unknown as Bob Dylan. Despite this being a loved performance by audiences, he did not end up winning the award. For the film, Chalamet sang all of Bob Dylan’s songs in the film live. In order to prepare for this, he underwent musical training and worked on playing the guitar and harmonica in the style of Dylan. To correctly embody Dylan, he immersed himself into “Dylan’s world” and visited his residences in New York. Additionally, to resemble Dylan for the film, Chalamet gained 20 pounds.
On the Oscars red carpet, Chalamet made a bold fashion statement by shying away from the traditional black tuxedo look. Instead, he wore a custom butter-yellow leather suit made by Givenchy, paired with a matching silk shirt. This fashion statement displayed how Chalamet has his own unique style and is not afraid to take risks. This shade of yellow is certainly a unique look for tuxedos, but it is a great color to make a statement as it is bright and catches the eye. This year, Zoë Saldaña won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the film Emilia Pérez. She plays Rita Mora Castro, a lawyer who helps a Mexican cartel leader get gender-affirming surgery in order to evade authorities. She was the first American of Dominican descent to ever win an Oscar. In her acceptance speech, she dedicated the award to her family and her immigrant roots, expressing pride in her Dominican heritage, saying she was proud to represent her community. Her performance in Emilia Pérez has also helped her earn several other prestigious awards, including the Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild awards for her remarkable performance.
