Greeley’s field hockey season officially wrapped up last Sunday in a 2-1 regional loss to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Despite the season ending earlier than the Quakers had hoped, they evidently had a remarkable season that will not be overshadowed by Sunday’s loss. Going into the regional game, Greeley had a record of 16-1, with their sole loss to Mamaroneck.
Of Greeley’s 16 wins, the most prominent was the Section 1 semi-final win over Lakeland. The game was a rematch of last year’s Section 1 Class B Final, in which Lakeland defeated Greeley after two overtimes and a shootout. Greeley’s 2-0 victory snapped Lakeland’s 17-year streak of making the section championship. On a penalty shot in the first quarter, Sienna T. delivered a perfect one-timer to Phoebe W. Nicole W. later secured the win with an insurance goal. On the defensive end, Eve R. was a dominant force, and Phoebe W. had several crucial interceptions in the game’s closing minutes. Lakeland managed just one shot all game, which was saved by Darby R.
Fresh off the upset, Greeley faced the top seed, Rye, in the Section Championship. The Quakers won 1-0, with their lone goal scored by Eve R., assisted by Kate P. Darby R. recorded her fifteenth shutout of the year in goal. Her stellar performance has earned her the top save percentage in Section One, according to Lohud.
Throughout the 2025 season, Greeley proved to be a dominant force, demonstrating its ability to compete with the top teams in New York. With a historic win over Lakeland and a decisive championship victory against Rye, the team set a new standard of excellence for Greeley girls’ field hockey.
