Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, has officially made its way to Horace Greeley High School. This fall marked the launch of the Pickleball Club, which was founded to introduce students to the game and provide a warm and welcoming space for all.
The club aims to give students of all levels the opportunity to learn how to play, improve their skills, and enjoy the many benefits of pickleball. Pickleball is a sport that involves teamwork, fitness, competition, and most importantly, fun!
Each day 5-Blue, the club meets in the back gym with Coach Tortora, who has been kind enough to advise the club. The club had its first meeting on October 7th, and it was a big success. Students learn how to keep score and the basic rules of the game. By the end of the year, the club hopes to play against other schools in the area and to host a pickleball tournament to raise money for a charity that will be determined by the club members.
The Pickleball Club has already received generous support from the brands Babolat, Paddletek, and Lifetime Pickleball, who all agreed to be the official sponsors of the club. They have donated several paddles and pickleballs for students to be able to use and enjoy each week.
Whether you’re brand new to pickleball or already know how to play, the Pickleball Club invites you to come play with your friends and see all the sport has to offer. Together, students will learn and embrace a new sport in the Greeley community. Phoebe Xu, a member of the club says, “Pickleball Club has been an exciting part of my week and has allowed me to bond with my peers, be active, and has allowed me to develop my teamwork skills, outside of the classroom.” With enthusiasm growing each week, the Pickleball Club is quickly becoming a vibrant new part of the Greeley community.
